A video circulating widely on social media appears to show a man in the Ojota area of Lagos confronting the driver of a vehicle he identified as his stolen car.

In the clip shared on platforms like Twitter, the man is seen standing in front of the moving vehicle, seemingly preventing it from driving away.

The driver of the vehicle tried to speed away but the owner clung to the bonnet and refused to let go.

After the vehicle stopped, the suspected thief disembarked from the car and took to his heels with area boys and other by standers in hot pursuit.

The clip shows the pursuers throwing missiles at the fleeing man. Some witnesses claim the suspected thief was later caught and severely beaten.

‘Ojota’ is among the top trending topics on X (Twitter) at the time of filing this report. Netizens continue to debate the merits and demerits of the approach of the car owner.

The footage has drawn thousands of views and reactions online, with many users praising the owner’s boldness and others expressing concern about rising car theft and public vigilantism.

Several commentators also questioned the absence of visible police intervention in the clip.

At the time of publication, no official confirmation has been released by the Lagos State Police Command or other authorities regarding the identity of the suspect, whether the vehicle was indeed stolen, or if any arrests have been made. Journalists have reached out to police sources but have yet to receive a statement.

Car theft and snatching remain significant security concerns across Lagos State, with law enforcement regularly reporting recoveries and arrests. In recent months, the police have seized high-value vehicles and dismantled car theft syndicates as part of ongoing crime-fighting efforts.
