A cement-laden truck reportedly lost control and rammed into a traffic officer and two commercial motorcyclists, killing them instantly in Badagry on Monday.
The tragic incident happened at the very busy Badagry Roundabout around 9 a.m., on Monday, February 23, 2026.
Sources at the scene said the truck was approaching the junction at high speed when the driver allegedly lost control.
The vehicle reportedly veered off its lane and ploughed into the victims.
An officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who was said to be managing traffic at the time, was crushed in the impact. Two commercial motorcyclists waiting to pick up passengers were also hit.
A police source disclosed that the crash caused heavy gridlock in the area, prompting the deployment of additional traffic officials and security personnel.
Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Federal Road Safety Corps were mobilised to manage the situation and restore order.
Authorities confirmed that the truck driver was immediately apprehended and taken into custody at the Badagry Police Station. The vehicle involved has been impounded for further investigation.
The unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the area, Yusuf Sanni, attributed the crash to loss of control and advised motorists to avoid the affected route. He confirmed that the victims’ remains were evacuated to a hospital mortuary.
Also speaking, the Divisional Police Officer of Badagry Police Station, CSP Folajimi Agosile, stated that the driver would be arraigned before the Chief Magistrates’ Court after investigations are concluded.
When contacted, LASTMA’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, said an official update would be provided, but no further statement had been issued as of the time of filing this report.
The accident comes just days after LASTMA reported another fatal crash at Ekoro Junction, inward Abule-Egba, where one person died, and four others were rescued.
