Mirabel, the young lady who made a false rape allegation, is scheduled to be charged in court today in Ogun State following public concerns surrounding her detention and access to legal counsel.

The update was shared by Tracy McWary, a human rights and gender-based violence advocate who has been monitoring the situation.

Earlier, McWary had raised concerns that Mirabel had been held for more than 48 hours and that her lawyer was allegedly denied access to her.

However, after speaking directly with the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, she stated that she was assured Mirabel was not denied legal representation.

According to her, several lawyers had reportedly reached out on Mirabel’s behalf.

McWary further disclosed that the Commissioner confirmed Mirabel would be charged in court in accordance with due process.

In her statement, she commended the Commissioner for what she described as his proactiveness, professionalism, and transparency, noting that such conduct helps reinforce public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.

She stressed that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done.

She also called on Mirabel’s lawyer, Taofeek Babatunde Akinbo, as well as concerned residents of Ogun State, to be present at the High Court as proceedings begin.

According to her Facebook post, supporters are expected to assemble at the Gender Unit of the Police Headquarters in Ogun State before heading to court
