A woman, Anthonia Overayi, has reportedly been rescued in Delta State following a disturbing encounter with a man she met online.
According to accounts circulating online, the suspect invited the woman out under the guise of a meeting.
However, instead of taking her to a public location, he allegedly led her to a secluded bush area alongside an accomplice.
Sources claim the woman was tied to a tree during the incident. She further alleged that the men accessed her bank account and transferred all the funds while she was restrained.
Her ordeal reportedly came to an end after members of a local vigilante group intervened and rescued her.
One of the culprits was also caught.
The vigilantes interviewed the victim on camera. She told them, after they picked her up and were driving towards a secluded place, that she was afraid.
She said the accomplice intimidated her and put a gag on her, threatening that they would shoot her dead if she failed to cooperate.
Anthonia said they then tied her to the tree and transferred all the money in her account.
According to her, they then left her, saying they were going to get the next victim who was already at the junction where she was picked.
The apprehended culprit was also interviewed by the vigilantes. He gave his name as Akpi, and confirmed that they left Anthonia to go and fetch another victim from Akpovi Junction.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident as of the time of this report.
