A Nigerian woman living in the United Kingdom has shared her frustrations about job hunting, contrasting the experience with what she described as a more flexible process in Nigeria.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the woman spoke candidly about missing how employment opportunities sometimes unfold back home.
According to her, hiring decisions in Nigeria can occasionally be swift, especially when you have connections.
“I miss Nigeria. You can just be told, ‘Go and resume work there on Monday.’ Where will you see that here?” she said in the video.
She went on to explain that securing employment in the UK feels significantly more demanding. Even roles considered entry-level, she claimed, often come with requirements that appear excessive.
Speaking in Yoruba, she said that when she could not land better jobs, she decided to take a cleaning job, but was surprised when they asked for a minimum of 10 years of experience.
She wondered if she offended anyone that her own case was like that.
Her comments have stirred debate online, particularly among Nigerians living overseas.
While some agreed with her perspective and shared similar struggles navigating the foreign job market, others challenged her claims.
One social media user reacted by suggesting she return home if opportunities seemed better in Nigeria, while another dismissed her account as exaggerated.
