A Nigerian man, Joe, who relocated to the United States at the age of 19, has reportedly been deported after living in the country for almost 50 years.

The development came to public attention after his granddaughter, Micah Akefe, identified on TikTok as @Majormicc, shared an emotional video describing the family’s ordeal.

The post quickly gained traction online, drawing sympathy and concern from viewers.

According to her, Grandpa Joe was deported without prior notice to family members. She said they were not given the opportunity to say goodbye before his removal.

She disclosed that her mother managed to speak with him twice while he was being held at an ICE detention facility in Louisiana, adding that the calls cost $106. Since then, the family says they have not heard from him.

The granddaughter expressed concern over his well-being, noting that he is nearly 70 years old and allegedly has no immediate accommodation arranged in Nigeria.

She appealed to social media users for legal advice and assistance, describing the situation as distressing and sudden.

“Everything is happening so fast. We still haven’t heard from him,” she said, while urging people to share the story and offer guidance.

The exact circumstances surrounding his deportation have not been made public, and it remains unclear what led to the immigration action after decades of residence in the United States.

The case has sparked conversations online about immigration enforcement, elderly deportations, and the emotional impact on families separated by removal proceedings.

Micah has now opened up a GoFundMe account to raise some funds to cater for the old man in Nigeria and fight for his return to the US.

The account has generated $525 of the total target of $3000 as of the time of filing this report.

“My name is Micah, and I am asking for urgent support for my grandfather, Joe
My grandfather lived in the United States since he was 19 years old. He is now 67. For nearly 50 years, America was his home. His daughter, grandchildren, and entire family are here in the United States.
He was recently detained and deported to Nigeria before our family even had the chance to say goodbye. By the time his attorney responded, he had already been removed from the country.
My grandfather has medical conditions that require daily medication. Right now, our biggest concern is his health. He does not have stable access to his prescriptions, reliable healthcare, or secure housing. He has not lived in Nigeria for decades and does not have a strong support system there.
He described his experience at the Central ice processing center in Louisiana facility and transport experience as frightening and traumatic. At nearly 70 years old, the stress and physical conditions have taken a toll on him. Now he is in a country that feels unfamiliar, trying to navigate healthcare and basic needs without stability. The flight from to Nigeria I believe, is 14 till like 16 hours so for him to go without medication at long and without hearing from him is scary. We are still going to work on bringing him home but it seems like Nigeria might have to be his home for a while until things get situated he has no housing no clothes no food no medication we didn’t get a chance to say goodbye. Like many other people will. Everything happens so fast I wasn’t prepared. I don’t have all the information as of yet.”
