Former Big Brother Naija housemate Natasha Akide, widely known as Tacha, has spoken out against false rape accusations, describing them as harmful to genuine victims.
In a video posted on her Instagram page on Thursday, the reality TV personality addressed the recent controversy involving TikTok user Mirabel, who reportedly admitted to making up a rape allegation.
Tacha emphasised that rape is a grave issue that should never be trivialised or used as a tool for manipulation.
She warned that fabricating such claims undermines the experiences of real survivors and weakens public trust when genuine cases are reported.
According to her, false accusations not only damage reputations but also embolden those who dismiss or downplay sexual violence.
She argued that accountability is necessary when allegations are proven deliberately false, stating that there should be consequences that reflect the seriousness of the matter.
While acknowledging that mental health challenges may influence some individuals’ actions, Tacha maintained that this should not excuse deliberate falsehoods.
At the same time, she reaffirmed her support for survivors of sexual assault, stressing that real victims must continue to be heard and protected.
She also pointed out the psychological toll such controversies can have on both the accused and the broader public discourse, adding that false claims complicate efforts to combat sexual violence.
