Woman runs out naked after being held captive for two days by sexual abuser in Australia

A 46-year-old man is standing trial in Australia after a woman was discovered unclothed on a suburban street after she allegedly fled from a man who sexually abused her for two days.
The case is being heard before a jury at the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory. The accused, Sisituutuumata Fulivai, has pleaded not guilty to 20 charges.
Police officers told the court they were on patrol in Lyneham, a suburb of Canberra, on the evening of June 10, 2024, when a distressed woman ran toward them seeking help. Officers said she appeared extremely frightened and told them she feared for her life.
According to prosecutors, the woman, who was in her mid-20s, had met the accused through a mutual acquaintance days earlier.
What she initially believed to be a consensual meeting allegedly escalated following a visit by friends, which prosecutors claim triggered jealousy and subsequent violence.
The court heard allegations that the woman was physically assaulted over an extended period and sustained multiple visible injuries.
In recorded interviews played to jurors, she described being prevented from leaving and subjected to repeated abuse.
Prosecutors further alleged that she was threatened with a weapon, forcibly restrained, and sexually assaulted despite pleading to be released. The court was told she also reported being choked until she lost consciousness.
It is alleged that the accused made threats against the woman and her family during the incident.
The woman told investigators she managed to escape when the accused fell asleep. She reportedly left the residence during daylight and ran into the street, where police encountered her shortly afterwards.
The trial is ongoing, with additional evidence and testimony expected to be presented in the coming days.
