
A 38-year-old officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, identified as Chidiebere James, popularly known as “Agali,” has allegedly been stabbed to death by his wife in Abia State
The incident reportedly occurred in Umuizi, Ekeoba Ohuhu, within Umuahia North Local Government Area on Monday, February 16, 2026.
Dispute over sick child, alleged infidelity
Sources indicate that tensions began a day earlier following a heated argument between the couple over their sick child and the officer’s alleged inability to provide funds for medical treatment.
The disagreement was reportedly intensified after the wife allegedly discovered incriminating messages on the deceased’s mobile phone, leading to accusations of infidelity.
Family members, including the deceased’s sister, were said to have intervened at the time and temporarily restored calm.
Altercation turns fatal
However, early the following morning, tensions reportedly resurfaced, leading to another confrontation inside their residence.
During the altercation, the deceased’s phone was allegedly damaged. In retaliation, he was said to have seized and destroyed his wife’s phone, further escalating the dispute into a physical struggle.
In the course of the confrontation, the woman allegedly picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed him.
He reportedly collapsed shortly after the incident and was later confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia.
Attempted escape and community reaction
Community sources alleged that the suspect attempted to flee the scene with the couple’s children but was prevented as youths gathered at the residence.
Some residents were said to have attempted to attack her before she was rescued.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had not released an official statement regarding the incident.
Investigations are expected to determine the full circumstances surrounding the alleged killing.
