A Nigerian man, Toshiba Ihediri, has shared an emotional testimony of how he was divinely instructed to disembark from a commercial bus that later crashed, killing 15 traders from Umuahia, Abia State.

The victims were reportedly returning from a traditional marriage ceremony in Enugu State on Sunday, February 15, 2026, when the crash occurred. Several others were said to have sustained serious injuries, with some left unconscious.

Ihediri, who described himself as a neighbour of the groom, revealed that he had initially boarded the coaster bus transporting the group.

According to him, he patiently waited for the bus to fill up with passengers from approximately 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

He said he was eventually divinely instructed to leave the bus and abandon the trip altogether.

In a message shared online, he expressed gratitude to God for what he believes was a life-saving intervention.

He stated that after sitting in the bus for hours, he felt compelled to quietly step down and not continue with the journey.

“I changed my mind and decided not to go again,” he wrote, adding that he later learned the bus was involved in a fatal crash.

Reflecting on the tragedy, Ihediri questioned what would have become of his aged mother, wife, children, siblings, and relatives had he remained on board. He noted that he was the only passenger who chose not to travel after waiting for hours.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions on social media. While many users praised his decision and offered prayers for the deceased, others debated the interpretation of his testimony, particularly the suggestion that divine intervention spared him while others lost their lives.

The accident has left families in mourning as the Umuahia trading community grapples with the loss of 15 members returning from what was meant to be a joyous occasion.
