The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Chibunna Nwafor, in connection with the killing of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, also known as “Offonwadile,” is alleged to be a native doctor.
Authorities claim he conspired with accomplices in the July 2025 murder of the pregnant nurse, whose death sparked widespread outrage within the community.
According to police reports, the victim was allegedly lured to a residence by a friend under the pretext of providing medical assistance.
That friend was arrested in July 2025 following community-led efforts, while Nwafor, described as a prime suspect, reportedly went into hiding.
In a statement issued on Friday, police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the suspect was apprehended on February 11, 2026, in his hideout at Umueri community in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The arrest, he said, was the result of sustained intelligence gathering and cooperation from members of the public.
Ikenga added that the suspect has been transferred to a higher investigative formation for further discreet investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended community members for their assistance and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that all individuals involved in the crime are brought to justice.
Police say investigations remain ongoing, and additional updates will be communicated as developments unfold.
The case had earlier drawn significant attention after authorities reported the recovery of mutilated human remains at a shrine during the initial phase of the investigation in 2025.
