A Nigerian student from Plateau State, Isaac Satlat, 22, has been shot and killed in South Africa, in a development that has prompted concern among Nigerians living in the country.
Isaac Satlat, who was due to graduate next month and had plans to relocate to Canada for further studies, was reported missing after he was allegedly abducted while driving his father’s car in Moshongo, in the Attridgeville area near Pretoria.
According to posts shared on social media by community members, his lifeless body was found two days after he was last seen, with multiple gunshot wounds.
The news was shared on Thursday, February 12, by Charles Awuzie on Facebook. Awuzie noted that Isaac’s father, a Christian missionary based in South Africa, was said to have suffered a health crisis in Nigeria after receiving word of his son’s death.
Another Nigerian resident based in South Africa wrote that this incident followed closely on the murder of another Nigerian man, Emeka Uzor, which occurred just days earlier.
The circumstances surrounding Isaac’s death are still unclear, and South African authorities have yet to release official statements on the incident.
The killings have reignited discussions among Nigerians at home and abroad about safety and the treatment of foreign nationals in South Africa.
