Residents of Akute-Odo in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State were left shaken after a security guard was killed during a late-night attack at Christ Crusaders’ Deliverance Ministries.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, February 10, 2026.
According to community sources, the victim, widely known as Baba Iwo, was on duty when he noticed unusual movement within the church premises during a power outage. He reportedly decided to investigate the situation.
When he did not return after some time, another guard in the vicinity became concerned and checked the building. He was said to have discovered Baba Iwo lying motionless inside the church and immediately raised an alarm. The distress call drew youths and other residents to the scene.
During the commotion, one suspect was apprehended while allegedly attempting to escape toward the tollgate area.
Witnesses claimed that the arrest was not without struggle, as two residents reportedly sustained injuries in the process. The suspect was subsequently handed over to officers from the Ajuwon Police Division.
Some residents alleged that more than one attacker may have been involved, though the exact number remains unclear.
Calls have also been made for investigators to review any available CCTV footage from the church and surrounding areas.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry.
Police spokesperson Babaseyi Oluseyi stated that the deceased’s remains were released to his family in accordance with Islamic burial rites.
He added that details of the investigation would be disclosed once concluded, noting that certain aspects must remain confidential for now.
