A Nigerian postgraduate student in the United Kingdom is preparing to leave the country after her visa was withdrawn, following months of unsuccessful efforts to secure employment with sponsorship.
The young woman, who has been sharing her relocation experience on social media, disclosed that she submitted nearly 3,000 job applications during her stay.
Out of those, she received only 24 interview invitations — none of which translated into a job offer or the sponsorship required to remain in the UK legally.
With her immigration status now affected, she revealed during an emotional phone conversation with her parents that her time in the UK is limited.
“My visa has been cancelled. I only have a few weeks left. If I don’t get an employer willing to sponsor me, I’ll have to return,” she said.
Her father responded with reassurance, telling her she would always have a place at home regardless of the outcome.
He emphasized that returning would not be seen as a failure, but simply another phase of life.
The development highlights the increasingly competitive UK job market, particularly for international graduates who must secure employer sponsorship to transition from a student visa to a work permit.
Many foreign students face similar hurdles, despite their academic qualifications and extensive job searches.
While her immediate plans now appear uncertain, observers note that the skills, exposure and experience gained during her time abroad may still prove valuable in future pursuits.
Her story has sparked conversations online about migration expectations, visa policies and the realities many young Nigerians encounter after relocating overseas.
