Lagos police detain officers accused of assaulting, robbing actor Ijoba Lande
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of officers accused of assaulting and allegedly robbing popular skit maker and actor, Kehinde Ganiyu, widely known as Ijoba Lande.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, stating that the officers involved have been identified and are currently under investigation.
According to Adebisi, the affected officers have been brought to the Command headquarters, where they, alongside Ijoba Lande and his friend, are providing detailed statements.
“The officers involved have been identified and brought forward to the Command for investigation. At the moment, both the officers, the actor, and his friend are giving their statements. Further developments will be communicated accordingly,” the statement read, accompanied by the hashtag #SayNoToImpunity.
Ijoba Lande alleges assault and theft
The development follows a viral video posted by Ijoba Lande on social media, in which he accused officers attached to the Area ‘J’ Division of the Lagos State Police Command of brutally assaulting him.
In the footage, the comedian was seen with visible injuries, including bloodstains around his eyes, as bystanders or associates poured water on his face.
The video also showed him inside what appeared to be a police station, where he attempted to formally report the alleged assault.
Ijoba Lande further alleged that the officers confiscated his iPhone 16 Pro Max and took $1,200 in cash, which he said belonged to his brother.
The incident sparked widespread outrage online, with many Nigerians demanding accountability and swift disciplinary action against the officers involved.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that appropriate actions will be taken based on the outcome.
