Popular Nigerian actor and comedian Ganiyu Morufu, widely known by his stage name Ijoba Lande, has accused officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) of assaulting him and seizing his possessions in an incident that has sparked fresh debate about police brutality in the country.

In a video posted on his Instagram and Facebook pages on Friday, February 6, 2026, Ijoba Lande appeared visibly injured and emotionally distressed, claiming that he was physically attacked by operatives of the Area J Police Division in Lagos State.

The entertainer, known for his comedy skits and roles in Yoruba Nollywood productions, said the alleged incident occurred just six days after returning to Nigeria from the United Kingdom.

Ijoba Lande alleges assault and theft

Ijoba Lande told viewers that during the encounter, the officers beat him severely and confiscated his iPhone 16 Pro Max, a high-end smartphone model. He also alleged that they took $1,200 in cash belonging to his brother.

In footage circulating on social media the actor is seen with visible injuries, including bleeding around his eyes, as bystanders try to pour water on his face in an attempt to help him.

Later shots show him inside a facility resembling a police station, where he appears to be struggling to lodge a complaint about the alleged assault and robbery.

In an accompanying message, Ijoba Lande wrote:

“I came back from the UK 6 days ago and was attacked and beaten by police in Nigeria. They collected my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life.”

Public response and calls for accountability

The actor’s allegations have triggered significant reactions on social media, with many followers expressing outrage at the claims and urging authorities to investigate thoroughly.

Thousands of posts on platforms like X and Instagram have circulated the video and commentary, with fans and critics alike calling for explanations from both the police and the entertainer.

As of publication, there has been no official response from the Nigeria Police Force regarding Ijoba Lande’s allegations, and it is unclear whether an internal investigation has been launched.

Legal experts and civil society representatives are urging the police to issue a statement and review the matter impartially.

Independent advocacy groups such as Amnesty International have repeatedly documented issues related to police conduct and called for reforms aimed at protecting citizens’ rights.
