Lawrence Osei Baffour, a home-based national side player and goalkeeper for Heart of Lions in the Ghana Premier League, has reportedly relocated to the United States to pursue new opportunities.
The 30‑year‑old shot‑stopper, widely regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in Ghana’s domestic league, appears to have ended his professional football career in a move that stunned fans and the local football community.
According to reports, Osei departed Ghana without formal notice to his club after securing a travel visa to the U.S., despite being under contract with Heart of Lions through 2027.
In social media posts shared on platforms including TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), Osei wrote “Left home with a dream, now chasing it,” alongside footage capturing his departure from Ghana and arrival in the United States.
Picture circulates of Lawrence Osei Baffour in cleaning kit
Among the various posts circulating online is a photo of Lawrence Osei appearing to be in cleaning kit, while holding a broom, suggesting he may now be taking up manual work outside of professional sports.
While the image has gained traction on social media and contributed to the narrative of him “chasing the American dream,” there is no official confirmation from reputable news sources that he is formally employed as a cleaner in the U.S.
Career and reaction
Osei had been a key figure for Heart of Lions, known for strong performances in goal, and was part of the Black Galaxies squad that travelled to South Africa in late 2025 for a friendly against Bafana Bafana.
Local fans and commentators have reacted with surprise and mixed sentiments. Some understand his pursuit of better opportunities abroad, while others have expressed concern that Ghana’s domestic league continues to lose talented players to uncertain futures overseas.
Heart of Lions has not yet released an official statement on Osei’s departure or his current status with the club.
