A commercial motorcyclist has been stabbed to death in the Ijoko area of Ogun State following a heated argument with members of a transport union levy collection group, popularly known as agberos, over a N100 ticket.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night, February 2, 2026, when a disagreement between the rider and the ticket collectors reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation.

Eyewitnesses said the clash began as a minor quarrel before turning physical, leading to the fatal stabbing of the motorcyclist, who was said to be from Nasarawa State.

Confirming the incident, a rider who identified himself as Rasheed told Punch that two motorcyclists were attacked during the altercation.

“They were fighting over a N100 ticket. It started as a small argument before it escalated on Tuesday night. The person who was killed is one of the motorcyclists from Nasarawa. Another person was stabbed but survived,” he said.

The killing sparked widespread protests by commercial motorcyclists across Lambe, Agbado and Akute communities on Wednesday, as angry riders confronted levy collectors and disrupted transport activities in the affected areas.

Many commuters were forced to trek long distances due to the shortage of motorcycles on the roads.

Another rider in Akute, identified as Ganiyu, confirmed the unrest, saying tensions had remained high since the incident.

“The man was stabbed to death by one of the agberos during an argument over the ticket. The agbero suddenly brought out a knife and stabbed him. Some riders have refused to work since then, which is why there are fewer okada riders today,” he said.

A senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to comment officially, confirmed the killing but clarified that it occurred in Ijoko, within the Agbado-Sango axis.

“After the incident, the deceased’s colleagues in Lambe and Akute staged protests to express their anger. Some suspects were arrested during another confrontation,” the officer disclosed.

The police are said to be continuing investigations as residents call for tighter control of transport union activities to prevent further violence in the area.
