
A 39-year-old Nigerian man, Oluwatobiloba Oyagunna, has died just seven days after relocating to the United Kingdom to further his education.
Oyagunna reportedly passed away suddenly on February 2, 2026, barely a week after arriving in the UK. He is survived by his wife and two children.
The sad development was confirmed by the founder of the Nigerians in UK Community, popularly known as Oluomo of Derby, in a statement shared on X.
According to the statement, Oyagunna arrived in the UK on January 26, 2026, to begin a Master’s degree programme in Business and Computing, describing him as a devoted husband, loving father and a man filled with dreams for a better future.
The community has since launched a GoFundMe campaign to help support his family with burial arrangements and immediate financial needs.
“Help us give Oluwatobiloba Oyagunna a dignified burial. We are raising funds to support the family of Oluwatobiloba Oyagunna, a 39-year-old Nigerian student in the United Kingdom, who sadly passed away suddenly on February 2, 2026, just days after arriving in the UK to begin a Master’s degree in Business and Computing,” the statement read.
It added that his sudden death has left his family devastated and unprepared for the financial burden that followed.
“He leaves behind a grieving wife and two beautiful children, whose lives have been completely shaken by this tragedy. We are coming together to ensure that Oluwatobiloba is laid to rest with dignity and to ease the immediate burden on his young family during this incredibly difficult time.”
Members of the Nigerian community in the UK have continued to express shock and condolences, with many describing the loss as heartbreaking and unexpected.
