“I regret going to the morgue to see your body” – Nanyah’s friend shares her last text

The 26-year-old singer passed away on January 31, 2026, after being bitten by a snake at her residence in Abuja.
Abah, who shared the account on Facebook, described the loss as leaving an “irreplaceable void” in his heart. In his tribute, he included Ifunanya’s final advice, writing:
“A friend told me. If God puts a thought in your head, don’t hold back. I regret going to the morgue and seeing you embalmed.”
Details from their last chat reveal concern for her safety before the incident. Samson shared a text exchange in which he urged Ifunanya to fumigate her room after she informed him that she had just been bitten by a snake in her own room.
“Please call me when you can or I will call you anyways. I’m so sorry Ify. You need to fumigate your room. Ify, I’m still coming to check chats please call me.”
The Amemuso Choir director, Sam Ezugwu, of which Ifunanya was a member, has also recounted her final hours.
He said Ifunanya sent a message to the choir’s WhatsApp group at 10:13 am, requesting urgent help.
A snake handler later discovered a medium-sized cobra in her room, another snake near her doormat, and a third in the surrounding compound.
Despite efforts to get her to the hospital, the deadly bite ultimately claimed her life at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja.
The tragic incident has sparked conversations on residential snake infestations in urban areas and the importance of timely medical intervention during venomous snake bites.
