Macaulay Culkin, the child star who brought Kevin McCallister to life in the classic ‘Home Alone’ films, has reacted heartbreakingly to the sudden death of his on-screen mother, Catherine O’Hara.

The Hollywood legend, who played Kevin’s fiercely loving mum in the two original Christmas blockbusters, passed away on Friday, January 30, in Los Angeles at the age of 71.

Taking to Instagram, a visibly emotional Culkin shared a powerful tribute that left fans in tears.

He posted two photos — one from the final scene of ‘Home Alone’ and another recreated years later — capturing the bond that had stretched beyond the movie set.

Alongside the images, Culkin wrote:

“Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later.”

Reports say O’Hara suffered a medical emergency at her home and was rushed to the hospital just hours before her death, though her official cause of death has not yet been made public.

Her passing has triggered a wave of tributes across Hollywood, but Culkin’s emotional farewell has stood out as a raw reminder of the real-life family bond formed through one of cinema’s most beloved films.

Catherine O’Hara’s portrayal of Kevin’s mother remains one of the most iconic roles in holiday movie history — a legacy now remembered with tears by fans around the world.
