“You left us, but mum gave her life for us,” Omije Ojumi’s daughter scolds father at service of songs

Emotions ran high at the service of songs held in Lagos on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in honour of late gospel singer Bunmi Akinaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, as her first daughter delivered a moving tribute that left many in tears.
The singer’s eldest child, Jomiloju, spoke openly about the hardships their mother endured while raising them alone after their father abandoned the family.
She described Omije Ojumi as a selfless and determined woman who sacrificed everything to ensure her children were properly educated and grew into disciplined, responsible individuals.
“Since my father left, he never checked on us or showed concern — and now he has come,” Jomiloju said emotionally.
“My mum stood by us through everything. Her focus was to make sure we became better people and didn’t repeat the struggles she faced in marriage. It hurts that she left so early without enjoying the rewards of her sacrifices.”
Jomiloju praised her mother’s strength and resilience, calling her a virtuous woman who carried the burden of parenthood alone without complaint.
She recalled how Omije Ojumi consistently prioritised their education, enrolling them in good schools despite financial challenges and teaching them values of respect, hard work, responsibility, and faith.
According to her, their mother often reminded them to think about the future and live purposeful lives.
In a heartfelt moment, Jomiloju promised to uphold her mother’s legacy by taking care of her younger brother, William, and guiding him to become the responsible and prayerful man their mother envisioned.
“My mum’s sacrifices will never be in vain. We will continue to live by the principles she taught us and make her proud,” she said.
The service of songs drew family members, friends, gospel artistes, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate Omije Ojumi’s life, music, and impact.
Many attendees were visibly moved by the tribute, describing it as a powerful reflection of the late singer’s devotion as both a mother and a minister whose songs touched countless lives.
