
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 53-year-old lecturer, Abdulfatai Aiyede, who reportedly collapsed while visiting a young woman at her residence in Minna.
The command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday, January 30, 2026.
According to police reports, Aiyede travelled from Bida to Minna to visit a 25-year-old nursing student identified as Stella Joseph, who resides along Niteco Road in the Tunga area of the state capital.
Abiodun stated that during the visit, the young woman served the lecturer a meal, after which he allegedly began to convulse and suddenly collapsed.
He was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Minna for medical attention, but was later confirmed dead by doctors.
“The Niger State Police Command received a report on January 27, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m. from Tudun-Wada Division that one Abdulfatai Aiyede, aged about 53, came from Bida to visit Stella Joseph, aged 25, in Minna,” the statement read.
“It was reported that after being served food by Stella, the man allegedly convulsed and collapsed. He was taken to the General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.”
The police spokesperson added that Stella Joseph has been arrested, while the deceased’s body has been taken for examination to determine the exact cause of death.
He noted that both families have been contacted and that investigations are ongoing, promising that further updates will be made available as the case develops.
