Nollywood actor and filmmaker Stanley Amandi has reportedly been taken into custody over his alleged involvement in a coup plot linked to some Nigerian military officers, according to a report by Premium Times.
Amandi, who is also a former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Enugu State chapter, was reportedly arrested in September 2025.
However, details surrounding his alleged role in the plot only recently came to public attention.
Sources quoted in the report disclosed that the actor was allegedly recruited by the suspected conspirators to serve as a propagandist, as part of a wider plan authorities believe was aimed at illegally overthrowing President Bola Tinubu’s government.
The Defence Headquarters has since confirmed that investigations into the alleged coup attempt have been concluded. Military authorities stated that the officers implicated in the matter will appear before judicial military panels, describing their actions as a serious violation of the Armed Forces’ professional and ethical codes.
Civilians connected to the case, including Amandi, are expected to face prosecution in regular courts, while the military personnel involved will first be subjected to court-martial proceedings as legal actions move forward.
