Marion Naipei, the young woman in the viral scandal involving a US-based medical doctor, James Opande, has claimed that a man who has been supporting her financially has dumped her.
The 23-year-old single mother said the man, whom she described as a helper who had been paying her rent, stopped assisting her immediately after the video began circulating on social media, leaving her in a difficult situation.
It would be recalled that Naipei became a national sensation in Kenya after Opande uploaded a video of himself groping her and lifting her dress to reveal her nakedness in a club in Nairobi.
Netizens were outraged by the video and called out Opande for allegedly taking advantage of Naipei in her drunk state.
Some women activists threatened to petition the US embassy to withdraw Opande’s visa and deport him to Kenya.
In her latest interview, Naipei said the fallout from the viral clip has been overwhelming, both emotionally and financially.
She said the man distanced himself without explanation once the footage spread widely.
Naipei claimed she was not in a stable state of mind at the time the video was taken. She further alleged that Opande had drugged her before recording the footage, an accusation that has since fueled intense online debate.
In another interview, she revealed that she met Opande on Tinder and had carried on an online romance with him until he visited Kenya, at which point they finally met at a club.
She also candidly disclosed that she had her baby at the age of 19 through a random meet-up
Human rights activists have since taken up the case, with one reporting that two people have been held by the police over the scandal.
There has, however, not been a formal release from the police over the incident.
