The mother of late Afro-fuji singer Afeez Adesina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has spoken publicly for the first time about the circumstances surrounding her son’s death, addressing rumours and shedding light on details that were previously unknown to the public.

In a 10-minute video now circulating widely on social media, the grieving mother, Saidat Adesina, gave an emotional account of her son’s prolonged health struggles, the events leading up to his collapse, and where he eventually passed away.

Her statement comes amid intense speculation online, with some suggesting that the singer’s lifestyle or recent controversies may have contributed to his death—claims she firmly rejected.

  1. Destiny Boy battled a long-term illness in private

According to Saidat Adesina, her son had been dealing with a chronic medical condition for nearly two years, which the family deliberately kept out of the public eye due to his celebrity status.

She explained that the illness sometimes caused him to collapse suddenly and behave similarly to someone experiencing epileptic episodes.

“When it comes upon him, he behaves like an epileptic person. After some time and treatment, he would recover, but during the episode, people had to restrain him,” she said.

  1. The illness began shortly after the birth of his child

The singer’s mother revealed that Destiny Boy’s health challenges began days after the birth of his first child, just before the baby’s naming ceremony.

She recounted that he collapsed suddenly while accompanying his father on an errand, marking the first major incident linked to the condition.

Following this episode, Destiny Boy was reportedly taken to multiple hospitals as the family sought medical help.

  1. Condition known locally as “Oku Oru”

Saidat Adesina mentioned that the illness was locally referred to as “Oku Oru.” She stressed that the name was not meant for public discussion previously, as the family feared stigma and unwanted attention.

“We didn’t want the world to know because he was a star,” she said.

  1. Family sought help from hospitals, clerics, and traditional healers

The mother disclosed that the family explored every possible avenue in search of a lasting cure, including hospitals, churches, mosques, and traditional healers.

She specifically mentioned a traditional figure identified as Oba Edun, whom Destiny Boy reportedly felt comfortable around and whose intervention sometimes brought temporary relief.

Despite these efforts, the condition continued to resurface.

  1. How she learned of his death

Speaking on the final moments, Saidat Adesina said she became worried after failing to reach her son by phone earlier in the day. Later that night, she received a call informing her that he had collapsed.

She rushed to Oba Edun’s residence, where Destiny Boy had been taken, and was later informed that his condition had worsened. Plans were reportedly made to take him to the hospital, but he did not survive.

Mother dismisses rumours and speculation

The grieving mother strongly dismissed claims that her son’s death was self-inflicted or caused by misconduct, insisting that Destiny Boy had been quietly battling illness long before the public became aware.

She described him as a loving son who tried to manage his condition away from public scrutiny.

Destiny Boy died on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the age of 22. He would have turned 23 later this year.
