US-based medic James Opande has been arrested and is currently in custody at the Kenyan Airport Police Station following the circulation of a controversial club video involving a woman identified as Marion Naipei.

According to reports on Sunday, January 18, 2026, Opande was taken into police custody following outrage after allegedly filming Marion while she was visibly intoxicated at a Nairobi nightclub and subsequently sharing the video without her consent.

A WhatsApp chat that has since surfaced online reportedly shows Opande admitting to a friend that he had been detained by the police in connection with the incident.

Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that Opande is expected to be arraigned in court on today, Monday, as investigations continue.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Kenyans—particularly women’s rights advocates—demanding his prosecution over alleged invasion of privacy, exploitation, and abuse of trust.

Police have yet to issue an official statement detailing the specific charges, but the case has continued to attract significant public attention.

The video recorded by Opande shows Marion chatting with him in a club while his hand roamed all over her.

He is seen playing with the woman’s bosom, twiddling her nipple under her top.

At one point, he can be seen lifting the woman’s dress at least twice, revealing her privates as she was not wearing any underwear.

Marion pulled down her dress to cover her nakedness on both occasions, but did not appear to be angry. She appeared intoxicated.

This happened in the open club with other club patrons in a position to see what was happening.

After Opande posted the video, netizens reacted angrily, accusing him of taking advantage of a drunk woman. Women’s rights activists got involved in the matter and threatened to petition the US embassy to deport the medical doctor.
