A 23-year-old woman identified as Marion Naipei has spoken publicly for the first time after a video showing her in a Nairobi nightclub went viral online, alleging that she was drugged before the footage was recorded.

The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, was allegedly recorded and leaked by James Opande, a US-based medic.

Marion insists that she was not in a clear state of mind at the time the video was taken.

According to her account, she met Opande more than a year ago, and the two stayed in regular contact, mainly via WhatsApp.

She said Opande, who resides and works in the United States, informed her of plans to visit Kenya for a holiday, during which they agreed to meet.

Marion explained that they later met at a popular entertainment spot in Nairobi, where they spent time together and consumed drinks.

She alleges that during the outing, her drink was spiked with an unknown substance, after which she began to feel dizzy, weak, and disoriented.

She said the sudden change in her physical and mental state left her confused and unable to properly understand or control what was happening around her.

Marion Naipei claims the video that later surfaced online was recorded during this period, when she was allegedly not fully aware of her surroundings. She described the footage as humiliating and emotionally distressing.

Speaking out amid intense public attention, Marion said she felt compelled to share her version of events to address what she described as misinformation and to explain the circumstances surrounding the viral clip.

A human rights activist, Geoffrey Mosiria, has vowed to get justice for Marion.

He condemned what he described as the alleged betrayal and public humiliation of a young woman who trusted someone she believed was a partner.

Mosiria expressed concern that Marion, a woman in her early twenties, was allegedly recorded without her consent by a man who had reportedly made promises of taking her abroad.

According to him, the trust she placed in the suspect was exploited, resulting in her private moments being exposed on social media for public consumption.

He described the alleged act as a gross violation of dignity, noting that instead of safeguarding her privacy, the suspect is accused of using digital platforms to shame and degrade her, both locally and internationally.

Mosiria stressed that such actions amount to cyberbullying, exploitation and abuse, which should not be tolerated in any society.

The activist disclosed that he has taken up the matter in pursuit of justice for the victim, adding that investigations have already led to the arrest of two individuals connected to the incident, who are currently being processed by the police at Buruburu Police Station.

He noted, however, that the principal suspect remains at large, with efforts ongoing to track him down.

It is not clear if he made the statement before reports emerged that Opande had been held at the Airport police station. Opande, in a message to a friend, claimed he was being held by the police in connection with the scandal.

Mosiria encouraged anyone experiencing similar forms of harassment, humiliation or online abuse to speak up and seek help through appropriate channels.
