The wife and daughter of slain Kaduna Anglican priest, Venerable Edwin Achi, have regained their freedom after spending over two months in captivity.

The victims, Mrs Sarah Achi and her daughter, were abducted alongside the priest on October 28, 2025, from their residence in the Nissi community of Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The incident sent shockwaves through the Christian community in the state and beyond.

According to earlier reports, the kidnappers initially demanded a ₦600 million ransom, which was later reduced to ₦200 million, while repeatedly threatening to kill the captives if their demands were not met.

To reinforce their threats, the abductors reportedly circulated photographs of the priest and his wife to prove they were still alive.

Tragically, before the ransom deadline expired, Venerable Achi was killed by his captors, sparking nationwide outrage and renewed calls for stronger action against insecurity in the region.

Confirming the latest development, a family source identified as Avril disclosed on Friday, January 16, 2026, that Mrs Achi and her daughter were released from captivity on Thursday night.

He added that both victims are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital due to their ordeal.

Details surrounding their release remain unclear. It is not yet known whether any ransom was paid or if security agencies played a role in securing their freedom.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the worsening security situation in parts of Kaduna State, where kidnappings for ransom have continued to claim lives and traumatise families.

While the release of the priest’s wife and daughter has brought a measure of relief, the loss of Venerable Edwin Achi remains a painful reminder of the human cost of Nigeria’s ongoing insecurity.
