A tragic incident of domestic violence has shaken Bayawa town in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State after a man, identified as Sule Gurmu, allegedly killed his wife, Umaima Maidawa, following a domestic dispute.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, January 14, 2026, after an argument reportedly broke out between the couple at their residence.
Following the incident, the suspect fled the community in an apparent attempt to evade arrest.
Confirming the development, the Executive Chairman of Augie Local Government Area, Hon. Yahaya Muhammad Augie, condemned the act and described it as a disturbing case of domestic violence that must not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Upon receiving the report, Hon. Augie immediately mobilised security personnel and proceeded to Bayawa town to assess the situation firsthand.
