A yet-to-be-identified housewife from the Isoko ethnic group in Delta State has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband and another woman described as his alleged side chick in Ighwre-Ovie community, Ughelli North Local Government Area.
According to community sources, the incident occurred following a prolonged domestic dispute reportedly linked to allegations of infidelity.
The suspect, a mother of two, is currently in custody at the Ughelli Area Command of the Delta State Police.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the suspect and her husband had been experiencing marital tension, with the woman accusing him of maintaining an extramarital relationship.
On the day of the incident, the husband allegedly returned home in an intoxicated state, leading to a confrontation between the couple.
During the altercation, the woman is alleged to have attacked her husband, resulting in his death.
Reports further claim that she later went to the residence of the woman believed to be her husband’s alleged partner.
The angry wife reportedly attacked the alleged lover with a hammer, killing her.
A resident of the community told Vanguard that the suspect appeared overwhelmed by anger and distress at the time of the incident. The source added that the violence extended beyond the two fatalities, as a female neighbour who attempted to intervene sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Another resident reportedly escaped harm after raising an alarm, which drew the attention of other community members and led to the suspect’s arrest.
The incident has thrown the normally quiet Ighwre-Ovie community into shock, with residents calling for increased awareness around domestic conflict resolution and mental health support.
As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
Police sources, however, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of preliminary inquiries.
