Recovered guns from bandits

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded fresh successes in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign in Borno State, with 11 terrorists surrendering and eight others neutralised during coordinated clearance operations.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, January 11, 2026, by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), the operations were conducted under sustained offensive actions against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements across key locations in the state.

The statement revealed that under Operation DESERT SANITY V, sustained military pressure along the Azir–Wajiroko axis on January 10 forced 11 terrorist fighters to surrender.

The fleeing insurgents reportedly laid down their arms, handing over AK-47 rifles and assorted ammunition to the troops.

Earlier, on January 9, troops carried out extensive clearance operations within the Bulaagalda cluster, where several active terrorist enclaves and camps were destroyed.

Locations cleared in Borno include Dagumba, Bonne, Yaganari, Gosuri and Umchile, notably dismantling the notorious Abu Nazir and Abu Ahmed camps.

During the operations, soldiers destroyed logistics structures, recovered weapons, magazines and terrorist flags, and significantly degraded the operational capacity of the insurgents.

Similar offensives in the Yale and Bula Gaida areas forced terrorists to flee, leading to further destruction of supply facilities and the recovery of additional arms, ammunition and a general-purpose machine gun.

In a related intelligence-led operation between Sojiri and Kayamla villages, troops engaged fleeing JAS/ISWAP elements, resulting in the neutralisation of eight terrorists and the recovery of AK-47 rifles.

Additionally, two suspected logistics collaborators were arrested in Gubio Local Government Area for allegedly supplying food and materials to terrorist groups.

The military reaffirmed its resolve to sustain offensive pressure, dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace and security across the North East region.
