The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate in connection with the killing of an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Barrister Chigbo Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix.
The suspects were apprehended following an intelligence-led investigation that traced the victim’s mobile phone after her death.
According to police authorities, Nwamaka was attacked during a robbery operation, after which her body was dumped along the road and her personal belongings taken.
In a statement issued on Sunday, January 11, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, carried out coordinated follow-up operations between January 5 and January 10.
The operation resulted in the arrest of Saifullahi Yusuf (22), Ishau Yusuf (24)—who are brothers—and Minka’ilu Jibril, also known as Dan-Hajia.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects belong to a long-standing “one-chance” armed robbery gang known for targeting unsuspecting commuters across the FCT, particularly during festive periods.
Police said the syndicate typically uses private vehicles to lure victims before robbing them.
Investigations further established that on January 5, 2026, at about 5:50 p.m., Barrister Nwamaka boarded a black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway, unaware that the occupants were criminals.
Shortly after she entered the vehicle, the windows were wound up, and she was threatened with weapons as the suspects attempted to extort ransom from her.
When she reportedly resisted, she was assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle, an act that led to her death.
The suspects confessed to stealing her Android mobile phone, which was later sold at Dei-Dei for ₦120,000. Police said the proceeds were shared among the gang members, while another suspect, identified as Musa, remains at large.
Recovered items include scissors, daggers, knives, a metal chain used to restrain victims, and a plier, all allegedly used in their operations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, commended the officers involved and assured residents that efforts are ongoing to arrest remaining suspects and dismantle the entire network.
He urged the public to stay vigilant, avoid suspicious vehicles, and promptly report emergencies through official police numbers.
Investigations remain ongoing, and further updates are expected.
