New video shows ICE agent was taunted before shooting woman dead

A newly released body-camera video has added fresh perspective to the fatal shooting of a Minneapolis woman, Renee Good, by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer, with a visual forensics expert describing the officer’s conduct as notably restrained despite sustained provocation.

Jonathan Baran, a visual investigations reporter with The Washington Post, said the footage—recorded by the ICE agent himself—offers the clearest view yet of the moments leading up to the shooting of Renee Good, a mother of three who was killed last Wednesday during a confrontation linked to a nearby immigration enforcement operation.

According to Baran, the video confirms that the officer, now identified as Jon Ross, was positioned directly in front of Good’s Honda Pilot as she sat behind the wheel.

Her wife, Rebecca Good, stood outside the vehicle filming the interaction and urging her partner to “drive, baby, drive.” Baran noted that the footage reveals an extended period during which the officer remained silent while being mocked and verbally taunted by the couple.

“The video shows just how antagonistic the interaction was,” Baran said in a BBC interview. “What is striking is that the officer does not engage verbally at all.”

Baran explained that the footage also captures Good turning the steering wheel and beginning to move the vehicle moments before the gunshots were fired.

However, he cautioned that the camera abruptly tilts upward at the critical instant, leaving unanswered questions about what the officer perceived in the final seconds and whether he was struck or narrowly missed by the vehicle.

While supporters of the officer—including former President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance—have argued that Ross acted in self-defence, Baran emphasised that the video does not conclusively support either side’s narrative.

“It doesn’t fully vindicate or condemn anyone,” he said. “There are still information gaps investigators will need to resolve.”

The shooting has triggered widespread protests in Minneapolis and other cities, with demonstrators accusing ICE of excessive force and aggressive enforcement tactics.

The White House, however, has described Good as a “domestic terrorist,” alleging she attempted to run down a federal officer—an assertion strongly rejected by her family.

Good and her wife had moved to Minnesota only last year and were parents to a six-year-old son, in addition to two other children from a previous relationship. Her family has called the killing a murder and is demanding criminal charges.

Tensions have continued to escalate, with clashes between protesters and law enforcement reported in Minneapolis and Portland, where two people were wounded in a separate ICE-related incident. Federal investigations into the Minneapolis shooting remain ongoing.
