A female teacher, identified as Folakemi, was abducted by gunmen in a suspected kidnapping on Tuesday morning, deepening security concerns in Ibadan and its environs.
According to police and eyewitness reports, Folakemi is a teacher at an international school and resides in the Akobo area of Ibadan.
She was reportedly driving her Toyota RAV4 along Adebajo Street, New Bodija, around 8:00 a.m. when a Toyota Highlander SUV blocked her path.
Three men, one of whom was masked, reportedly emerged from the vehicle, forced her out of her car and drove off with her, leaving behind another female occupant who managed to escape unharmed. The assailants also seized the victims’ mobile phones and personal belongings.
Residents who heard of the abduction raised the alarm, prompting a local police response. Officers arrived at the scene shortly after and found the RAV4 abandoned with its driver’s door still open.
DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Friday, stating that the command’s intelligence and tactical units are working to secure the teacher’s release and apprehend the perpetrators.
Ayanlade urged residents to remain calm and to share any information that could aid the investigation with nearby police stations.
The kidnapping comes amid heightened anxiety in parts of Ibadan following earlier abduction cases.
In December 2025, Mrs. Ibukun Otesile, then president of JCI Ibadan Elite and daughter of a prominent clergy family, was abducted outside her home in the General Gas, Akobo area.
She was later released unharmed, prompting community calls for stronger security measures across the city.
These incidents have contributed to growing concern among residents of Bodija and surrounding estates, prompting community leaders to organise neighbourhood watch efforts and work with security agencies.
Although the Bodija Estate Residents Association denied that a specific kidnapping occurred inside the estate, local security alerts have urged vigilance in response to increasing reports of armed robbery and abduction attempts in adjacent areas.
The Oyo State Police Command says it remains committed to resolving the case and has assured the public that intensified operations are underway.
Members of the public with credible information are encouraged to contact the police to assist with the ongoing search and rescue effort.
