A viral video has shown the moment a 53-year-old Ghanaian, George Ennin, was brutally killed in a random and unprovoked stabbing in the Bronx, New York.

Ennin, a father of two teenage daughters and a resident of the Bronx, was attacked on January 5, 2026, about 2 p.m., near Third Avenue and East 157th Street in the Melrose–Mott Haven area.

He was walking to work when the assailant allegedly approached him without provocation, kicked him, and stabbed him multiple times.

Tragically, the day marked Ennin’s first day back at work after a month-long vacation in Ghana, where he had visited family during the holidays.

Surveillance footage from the area reportedly shows the victim struggling to walk approximately 29 steps after the attack in a desperate attempt to seek help before collapsing on the sidewalk.

Emergency responders rushed him to Lincoln Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

New York police have arrested Sean Jones, a 38-year-old man with a lengthy criminal history, in connection with the killing.

Authorities said Jones has over 20 prior arrests, mostly related to robbery and assault. He has now been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.

The killing has sent shockwaves through the Ghanaian and wider African immigrant communities in New York, with many describing Ennin as a hardworking man who left home daily to provide for his family. Community members and advocates have expressed outrage that someone with such an extensive criminal record was free on the streets.

The incident has also intensified debate around public safety, repeat violent offenders, and the vulnerability of essential workers, particularly security guards and night-shift employees.

As investigations continue, Ennin’s family is left grappling with an immeasurable loss—mourning a husband and father whose life was cut short during what should have been an ordinary walk to work.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
