Ex-NBA executive killed in second encounter with “one chance” robbers,
Colleague recalls earlier escape

Fresh details have emerged surrounding the killing of Princess Mediatrix Chigbo Esq, a senior Nigerian lawyer and former Treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja Branch, revealing that she had previously survived an encounter with suspected “one chance” robbers months before her death.
An acquaintance of the deceased, Gabriel Egbule Jnr, disclosed in a Facebook post that Mediatrix had recounted a chilling experience in June 2025, when she unknowingly boarded a vehicle operated by suspected criminals around the Games Village area of Abuja.
According to him, she was robbed, driven around several parts of the city, and eventually abandoned along the Kaduna Road axis.
“We were grateful she survived and listened to her testimony with relief,” Egbule wrote. “What pains me the most is that this was not the first time she fell into the hands of these people.”
Tragically, the lawyer was not as fortunate the second time.
Mediatrix’s lifeless body was discovered earlier this week along the Kubwa Expressway near Dawaki, opposite Gwarimpa Estate, in what investigators suspect to be another attack by the same category of criminals.

A handbag believed to belong to her was reportedly found away from her body, suggesting she may have been assaulted during a robbery before being forced out of a moving vehicle.
She lay helplessly on the road for hours without anyone knowing who she was or if she could still be saved.
A Facebook user with the name Tor Bako took to the platform to announce that he saw the woman’s lifeless body on his way to work. He called on people to share his post so it could get to anyone who might know her.
He wrote: “On my way to work this morning, I saw a lifeless woman lying by the roadside. Possibly killed by “One Chance” hoodlums operating in the FCT because her bag was flung not far from her body.
Name: Princess Ochigbo
Occupation: Possibly a High Court Staff (FCT) by the docs in her bag.
Pls anyone who knows her family should contact the Nigeria Police Force, Dawaki Division opposite Gwarimpa estate along Kubwa Express Road, Abuja.
Pls share until it reaches the family.”
Her death has sparked widespread outrage, particularly within Nigeria’s legal and human rights communities.
As a former NBA official and a prominent member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Abuja, colleagues described her killing as both devastating and emblematic of Abuja’s worsening commuter insecurity.
In an emotional reaction, Sir Chidi Udekwe, a leader within her professional circle, said encountering her body at the morgue was “a moment of profound disbelief,” describing her as a vibrant advocate whose life was cut short in a senseless act of violence.
The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, but many Nigerians are demanding more than routine assurances.
For critics, Mediatrix’s death underscores what they describe as a systemic failure to dismantle “one chance” syndicates, despite years of reported attacks across the Federal Capital Territory.
As tributes and anger continue to pour in, her killing has become a rallying point for renewed calls for urgent, decisive action to make Abuja’s roads safe again.
