The family of a Nigerian woman in the United Kingdom, Nzube Grace Obi, has alleged that her husband, Dr. Ifeanyi Obi, was responsible for her death, following a prolonged period of physical and emotional abuse.

The allegations were first shared publicly by her brother, Munachi Arinzechuckwu, on social media.

According to Arinzechuckwu’s post, his sister, Grace, married Dr. Obi in 2014. He claims that from the early years of the marriage, his sister suffered consistent abuse, including a severe domestic accident in Owerri, Nigeria, which resulted in the death of their first child.

Following that incident, the family said they took her into their care in Enugu for proper medical attention.

Despite the challenges, Nzube Grace Obi, reportedly remained committed to maintaining the family, raising four children with her husband.

In 2023, Dr. Obi is said to have travelled to the UK without informing his wife and children.

Arinzechuckwu alleges that the wife was devastated but carried on with her life until the said husband reportedly invited her over to the UK.

The bereaved brother alleges that Dr Obi only invited his wife because he realised he could not combine working with studying.

According to him, his sister relocated to Derby, UK, in early 2024, after selling personal assets, including cars and landed properties, and leaving her job as Assistant Director at FMC, Owerri.

He further alleged that the family contributed the balance of the money needed for the relocation, as the husband provided no funds.

The family claims that while in the UK, Grace Obi was diagnosed with cancer and received medical care under the supervision of her mother, who had travelled to stay with her.

However, Arinzechuckwu alleges that domestic abuse continued despite her mother’s presence, and that local religious figures were aware of the abuse but did not intervene.

The family claims that after her mother left Derby, the situation worsened, with Grace Obi reporting further violence and limited access to basic necessities.

Munachi Arinzechuckwu stated that on January 3, 2026, the family was informed through WhatsApp by her husband that Grace Obi had died. The family says a police report has since been filed to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

Arinzechuckwu also raised concerns that a GoFundMe account was opened in his sister’s name without the family’s knowledge.

“All we want is justice for my sister,” he wrote in the social media post.

The case has drawn mixed reactions online, with some social media users supporting the family’s call for justice, while others have defended the husband, describing him as a caregiver.

Someone with the handle @awesomGod claims she lives close to the couple and has never heard the deceased complain about domestic abuse.

As of now, UK authorities have not released official statements regarding the investigation into Grace Obi’s death.
