Disturbing CCTV footage has emerged showing the moment a Kenyan man fatally stabbed his landlord, also a Kenyan, during a heated confrontation in Melbourne, Australia.

The two men, who were friends, arrived together in a car at a residence in Clyde, a suburb of Melbourne, on Sunday, December 22, 2025.

The two men went inside the apartment together, but Francis Muteru Githinji, the owner of the apartment rented by the suspect, soon came back to the car to grab a bottle.

Footage obtained by 7News Australia shows Githinji throwing the bottle at the suspect, who has a kitchen knife in is hand.

The two men, speaking loudly in Swahili and Kikuyu, tussled in the driveway, during which Githinji was stabbed in the stomach twice.

At least two other people who appear to be Africans can be seen in the footage, fruitlessly trying to separate the fighting duo.

Githinji is seen going into the car after he has been stabbed and his friend pulls out from the driveway enroute to the hospital.

However, the situation took another tragic turn when the vehicle transporting him crashed into another vehicle on the way.

One eyewitness recalled the severity of the injuries and the distressing scene, noting that Githinji had sustained multiple deep wounds and was bleeding heavily.

Emergency responders later arrived and airlifted Githinji to the hospital, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead.

The alleged attacker has since been arrested and charged with murder. Authorities have not publicly identified the suspect.

Neighbours disclosed that Githinji had been living in Melbourne since 2016 and was well known in the area.

While unconfirmed reports suggest the suspect may have been renting the property and experiencing difficulties meeting rent and utility payments, police have not established whether financial issues were the cause of the fatal dispute.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the deadly altercation.
