The Lagos State Police Command has refuted reports suggesting that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, authorised an investigation into alleged sexual harassment involving Pastor Chris Okafor, describing such claims as inaccurate and misleading.
In a telephone conversation with the Vanguard, the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Superintendent of Police Adebisi Abimbola, stated clearly that no directive was ever given by the CP to investigate any allegation of sexual misconduct against the cleric.
According to SP Abimbola, the issue came to the attention of the command only after a journalist forwarded screenshots and social media content containing allegations of murder linked to Pastor Okafor.
She explained that the CP was merely briefed on the online claims and did not order a formal investigation into sexual harassment or any related matter.

“At no time did the Commissioner of Police instruct that a sexual harassment investigation be carried out. That subject never came up,” she said.
She further explained that the online materials were forwarded to the CP strictly for awareness and accountability, noting that she could not act unilaterally on such sensitive allegations.
Following the briefing, the CP only advised the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to verify whether the alleged murder claims circulating online had any basis.
“The CP’s position was that we should not ignore allegations making the rounds online. He only asked that we confirm whether there is any truth to the murder-related claims. Sexual harassment was never discussed,” Abimbola stressed.
The police spokesperson also confirmed that no invitation has been extended to Pastor Okafor or to any other person in connection with the matter.
She added that the command’s social media monitoring team is still collating relevant information to determine the credibility of the online allegations.
Reacting to media reports suggesting an ongoing sexual harassment probe, SP Abimbola expressed surprise, insisting that such reports did not reflect the facts.
“I was genuinely surprised to read reports claiming the pastor was under investigation for sexual harassment. That is completely false,” she said.
She concluded by advising members of the public and the media to exercise caution and avoid drawing conclusions.
“To be clear, the CP did not order any sexual harassment investigation. What is being done is a verification of murder allegations circulating on social media—nothing more,” she added.
