A Kenyan man identified as Wanjohi wa Kigogoini has reportedly been admitted to a mental wellness facility following emotional distress triggered by the collapse of his marriage.

Kigogoini, who became popular locally following his calls to a vernacular-speaking radio station, released pictures from the wellness centre where he is receiving treatment on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

His plight has drawn widespread attention on social media and among radio listeners in Nairobi and beyond.

According to sources close to him, Wanjohi struggled to cope after his wife reportedly left their five-year marriage and eloped with a commercial motorcycle operator known as ‘boda boda’ in Kenya.

Friends and associates said Kigogoini could not get over the fact that a common commercial motorcyclist snatched his wife from him despite the money he had spent on her before and since their elaborate wedding.

He reportedly broke down completely, unable to attend to his work and basic needs.

They subsequently sought professional medical assistance, leading to his admission into a mental health facility for evaluation and care.

Wanjohi recently shocked listeners during a call-in session on a popular vernacular radio station, where he openly shared details of his marital struggles and how he had tried unsuccessfully to please his wife.

During the broadcast, he revealed that his wife had walked out of their five-year marriage, a revelation that prompted an outpouring of reactions from both the show’s hosts and the audience.

He further claimed that the breakup was particularly painful because his wife left him for a boda boda rider who was known to him. He said this added to the emotional weight of the situation, as he could not grapple with the betrayal by both his wife and the Boda boda operator.

Mental health advocates have since urged the public to approach the matter with empathy and restraint, emphasising the importance of professional support during periods of emotional crisis.
