A video circulating widely on social media has captured a young couple in an intimate act aboard a moving double-decker bus in Hayes, west London.

The couple had thought they were alone at the back of the bus when they decided to get frisky, without realising that their activities were clearly visible to people in the street as the bus was well-lit.

A bystander on Uxbridge Road reportedly filmed the pair in the rear section of the top deck engaging in behaviour that many viewers described as inappropriate for a public setting.

Footage circulating on platforms such as X and Instagram quickly drew attention, with some commenters questioning the couple’s judgment and others calling for enforcement of conduct standards on London’s transport network.

Transport for London has confirmed it is reviewing the matter with the bus operator and the Metropolitan Police.

Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, outside of the viral bus video coverage, large crowds gathered in city centres for fireworks and Hogmanay festivities in Edinburgh, where police recorded several arrests for public order offences amid the popular annual event.

As 2026 rolled in, there were various incidents reported across the world, highlighting the varied and sometimes chaotic nature of celebrations of the arrival of a new year.

In the Swiss Alps, authorities declared days of national mourning after a devastating fire at the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana on New Year’s Eve killed at least 40 people and left more than 115 others injured.

Preliminary investigations suggest the blaze, which spread rapidly through the crowded venue, may have been sparked by lit sparklers on champagne bottles coming into contact with flammable materials, though officials are still examining the exact cause.

Back in Europe, parts of the Netherlands experienced violence and unrest coinciding with the traditional New Year celebrations, which this year were marked by a surge in illegal fireworks use and clashes with emergency services in multiple cities.

Amsterdam saw a historic church building engulfed in flames amid what authorities described as unprecedented chaos on the night.

These incidents reflect the diverse and sometimes unpredictable outcomes of New Year celebrations across different societies.
