“Whatever you are not going to be proud of years later, don’t put online”. This is the advice a Kenyan priest will probably be giving to his parishioners if he survives the current social media storm threatening his ordination.

The priest who goes by the name Arl on X took to the platform to announce the completion of his priesthood ordination process.

The man, who is active on X (formerly Twitter), had shared photos of himself dressed in priestly robes, announcing his confirmation into the priesthood and describing it as the beginning of a new chapter in his spiritual journey.

The images quickly gained traction, attracting congratulatory messages from followers and well-wishers.

However, the celebratory mood did not last long. One of his followers remembered this same man openly lusted after the curvy physique of popular X personality, Siah Wanja, in one of his old tweets.

The follower dug out the post and retweeted it. This resurfaced post triggered widespread reactions online, with many users highlighting the sharp contrast between his former online persona and his current religious role.

The discovery sparked mixed responses. While some social media users poked fun at the apparent transformation, others defended him, arguing that personal growth and change are central to faith and spiritual life.

Responding to the renewed attention, the newly ordained priest addressed the controversy, stating that the tweets reflected a phase of his past.

He emphasised that he has since undergone personal transformation and is now fully committed to his priestly vows and responsibilities.

Many accepted the explanation, while some continued to flog him for carrying out a dual lifestyle.

Some of them dug out tweets as recently as last year where he appeared to be salivating over women’s pictures.

In August 2024, when he was supposed to have commenced his priestly journey, he posted a picture of the bust and groin of a plus-size lady and captioned it as follows: “I think it is safe and sound to say this is what men want. Period.”

In May 2024, he posted a picture of the bust of an endowed and wrote “I look at this pic thrice a day, lemme dillit it”.

In July, he posted a picture of a naked couple in a moment of intimacy. Earlier in March, he had posted a picture of a man with his head buried between the laps of a woman lying down.

In May of the same year, he posted a picture of a man grabbing a woman’s breast.

Netizens say the pictures the man posted are a reflection of his state of mind and should not be allowed into the profession of priesthood without purging himself of what they call an obsession with women and sex.

His employers are yet to comment on the controversy.
