The incident, which occurred in the early hours of December 30, caused panic among residents and hospital workers before security agencies quickly moved in to secure the environment.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, said the situation was promptly brought under control, stressing that no life was lost in the explosion.

According to the police, the blast affected a building located within the hospital’s staff quarters. Fortunately, the occupants had already evacuated the structure before the incident, preventing casualties.

SP Usman disclosed that a joint security task force comprising the police, military, and local vigilante groups immediately cordoned off the area. He added that specialised Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) teams were deployed to assess the scene.

The Commissioner of Police has also ordered additional tactical deployments around the hospital and adjoining communities to prevent any breakdown of law and order while investigations continue.

Residents have been advised to remain calm and stay away from the immediate vicinity of the hospital to allow security personnel carry out detailed investigations.
