Tragedy has struck in Abuja after a young man who married on Boxing Day died after the wedding night, leaving his family and friends in shock.

Information Technology expert Omar Ladan posted the story on X on Saturday, December 27, 2025, shortly after he received the news of his friend’s passing from his family.

Ladan said he took the deceased to the barber for his haircut ahead of his wedding and also took a personal video of the deceased in a relaxed mood just five days earlier.

The Google Certified Marketing expert had posted a picture of himself fully dressed on Boxing Day at the wedding ceremony with the caption: “Wedding Guest”.

The following day, he quoted the same post and wrote: “Innalillahi wa innailaihi Rajiun. The friend I went to his wedding yesterday is no more today.”

He added prayers for mercy and forgiveness for the departed friend.

In another post, he wrote: “Went to his wedding yesterday, took this video five days ago, but he’s no more today”.

In another post, he attached two pictures from the burial of his friend. One shows a sea of heads at the funeral service.

The second picture shows young men bearing the lifeless body of the deceased on a decorated stretcher, apparently in readiness for internment.

Other friends of the deceased who also attended the wedding have taken to X to confirm the heartbreaking development.

The friends talked about the groom’s excitement to get married and his hope for the future of himself and his bride.

None of the friends disclosed the cause of the young man’s sudden death.

The sudden passing has sparked an outpouring of condolences online, with many users describing the incident as a sobering reminder of life’s unpredictability.

The groom’s death has left loved ones in mourning, as prayers continue for his family and his young widow during this difficult time.

His friends have flooded social media with tributes for the departed.

One wrote: “Rest well, my brother. We are on our way, at any moment, at any time.

Tonight will be a new experience. In shaAllah, it will be a joyous one.

One thing I know for sure about him is his love for the Qur’an and the Prophet ﷺ. He taught me how to memorise the Qur’an through YouTube and constantly shared beneficial Islamic channels with me. Subhanallah.”

Another wrote:

“Wallāhi, he once told me he wanted to marry as soon as possible because this world felt so temporary in his heart. His eyes were always set on the Akhirah.

He would often speak about how he hoped to enjoy his time in Jannah, Subhanallah.

May Allah forgive him, have mercy on him, and grant him the highest place in Jannah.

Allāh ya gafarta masa, Baba. Abokin kirki”
