
The Ogun State Government has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, which claimed the lives of two people in his entourage.
In a statement issued on Monday, the state government conveyed its condolences to the families, friends, and associates of the victims affected by the crash.
The press release was signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Information and Strategy.
According to preliminary reports cited in the statement, the accident resulted in the instant death of two male foreign nationals. Their remains have since been deposited at a morgue in Sagamu, Ogun State.
Anthony Joshua reportedly escaped death. He and the driver of the vehicle were swiftly rescued by security personnel attached to his convoy and taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention. No official update has been provided on their medical condition as of the time of this report.
Describing the incident as painful and deeply unfortunate, the Ogun State Government lamented the loss of lives and extended sympathy to those who sustained injuries in the crash. The government noted that the tragedy has cast a shadow over the festive period, a time usually marked by celebration and increased movement across major roads.
The statement further assured the public that relevant authorities are monitoring the situation and that appropriate procedures are being followed in handling the aftermath of the accident.
In light of the incident, the Ogun State Government urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads and to strictly obey traffic regulations, especially during the festive season when vehicular traffic is typically heavy.
Drivers were also advised to remain alert, avoid speeding, and ensure that safety measures are observed at all times.
The government reiterated its commitment to road safety and prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
