Abroad returnee killed during housewarming party in Edo (Video)

A 43-year-old man, identified as Eghosa Osas, who returned from abroad with his family to celebrate the Yuletide, has allegedly been killed by his childhood friend in Oben community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

Eghosa was celebrating the completion of his mansion in Nigeria with a party to which he invited his family and friends, including the suspect, Amadin Williams, when he met his untimely death.

A report indicated that the victim was lured away from the party into a nearby bush, where he was allegedly attacked with a cutlass.

An alarm was raised when neither Eghosa nor Williams returned to the ongoing housewarming party.

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Williams, also 43, in connection with the killing.

The spokesperson of the command, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the development on Sunday, December 28, 2025, stating that the suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.

According to police sources, the deceased was attacked during the event under circumstances that are still being investigated. 

It was gathered that after the incident, the suspect fled Oben community, which immediately raised suspicion among residents. He was later tracked and arrested in Benin City, where he was said to be hiding.

Confirming the incident, a police source said Eghosa Osas was allegedly attacked by Amadin Williams, described as his childhood friend, for reasons yet to be determined by investigators.

Further details from the police indicate that the case was reported by the victim’s elder brother. According to the report, Eghosa had stepped away briefly from the gathering when the suspect allegedly confronted him and attacked him, leading to his death.

“The report of the murder is true, and the suspect, believed to be the victim’s childhood friend, has been arrested. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged in court as soon as the investigation is concluded,” Ikoedem said.

The incident has thrown the Oben community into mourning, with residents expressing shock that a festive homecoming ended in tragedy. The killing has also sparked conversations online about unresolved disputes, trust and betrayal..

Police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the incident.
