Aunty Esther, a popular personal shopper and small business facilitator on X (formerly Twitter), has been confirmed dead following a battle with cancer, sparking widespread reactions across social media.
The news of her passing was announced late on Saturday by one of her caregivers via an update on X.
While details surrounding her final moments were not disclosed, tributes have continued to pour in from followers, clients, and well-wishers who had closely followed her health journey in recent weeks.
Aunty Esther first drew public attention months ago when she was diagnosed with a terminal illness.
There was a controversy shortly after that she was lying and that nothing was probably wrong with her. This narrative came out of the reading of the deceased’s actions after netizens tried to get involved in her treatment.
It was later verified that she was not lying about her condition.
Earlier this month, she disclosed that medical tests had confirmed cancer in her breast and armpit regions. She openly shared updates about her condition with her online community and expressed gratitude to individuals who donated funds to support her treatment and hospital care.
However, another controversy emerged after one of the coordinators managing her donations, identified as Sir Dickson, publicly announced that he and another medical volunteer had withdrawn from her case.
According to him, doctors reportedly advised that Aunty Esther required a blood transfusion as a prerequisite for chemotherapy.
He alleged that she declined the procedure on religious grounds, citing her Jehovah’s Witness faith.
Dickson further claimed that accepting a blood transfusion could have led to disciplinary measures within her religious community, including possible disfellowship, and that some family members believed the situation should be left to divine will.
These claims, however, remain allegations and have not been independently verified by the church or the family.
The developments triggered intense debate online around faith, medical ethics, and personal choice, with many users expressing sorrow over the outcome.
Aunty Esther was widely regarded as diligent and trustworthy in her work as a personal shopper, helping many Nigerians access goods locally and internationally.
She is survived by family members and a large online community who continue to mourn her loss.
May her soul rest in peace.
