Nollywood actor Alesh Sanni has criticised some of his colleagues for what he described as performative mourning following the sudden death of actress and producer Allwell Ademola.

Allwell Ademola reportedly passed away on Saturday, December 27, sending shockwaves through the Nigerian film industry.

While tributes quickly flooded social media, Sanni expressed deep frustration over what he believes to be hypocrisy among industry players who, according to him, failed to support the late actress while she was alive.

In an emotional video shared on his social media page on Sunday morning, Sanni revealed that he had plans to attend a dinner with Allwell on the same day she died.

According to him, she passed away just hours before the event they had both intended to attend, making the loss even more painful and personal.

Visibly upset, the actor questioned why many people were eager to share news of her death but rarely promoted her work during her lifetime.

“What I don’t understand is why people are so quick to post bad news,” Sanni said. “This is disturbing. This is disheartening. Someone will celebrate a birthday, and you people will never post them like this.”

He further noted that Allwell was not just an actress but also a producer who worked hard to push her projects.

“She was a producer. You people wouldn’t repost any of her movies, so why are you posting now?” he asked.

Sanni also lamented the speed at which news of her passing spread online, describing it as insensitive.

“Someone hasn’t died beyond 30 minutes, and the news is all over your pages. Why?” he added.

His remarks have since sparked conversations online about support, recognition, and empathy within Nollywood, with many agreeing that creatives often receive more attention in death than in life.

Allwell Ademola’s death has left colleagues, friends, and fans mourning, while Sanni’s outburst has reignited calls for better appreciation and support for artistes while they are still alive.
