A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, after allegedly breaking into a residential property and being found cooking breakfast inside the home.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, December 27, along Ezakheni Road in Hazelmere.

According to the homeowner, the teenager gained access to the property by removing the gate and forcefully opening one of the doors before entering the house.

After allegedly breaking in, the boy reportedly went through several rooms, stealing clothing and food items.

The situation took an unexpected turn when the homeowner later returned and discovered the suspect inside the house, calmly frying eggs in the kitchen.

Shocked by the discovery, the homeowner immediately contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance.

Officers responded promptly to the distress call and arrived at the scene, where they found the house in a state of disarray, indicating that it had been ransacked.

Residents in the area reportedly informed RUSA officers that the teenager was known within the community and had allegedly been linked to previous housebreaking incidents.

These claims are expected to form part of ongoing investigations by law enforcement authorities.

Following his arrest, the minor suspect was handed over to the South African Police Service for further investigation and appropriate legal processing in line with laws governing juvenile offenders.

The incident has sparked discussions within the local community about youth crime, safety, and the underlying social challenges that often contribute to such behaviour among minors.

While some residents expressed concern over repeated break-ins in the area, others called for a balanced approach that addresses both security and rehabilitation for young offenders.

Police have urged residents to remain vigilant, secure their properties, and report any suspicious activity promptly, while investigations into the incident continue.
